Perry is daughter to actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (in flashback) her mother starred as Jackie Harris in two of Perry's initial TV roles. But her parents would not allow her to play until she turned an adult, for fear of the impact stress might have on their child. Perry did not like school and didn't act. Her first acting experience was in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends as she transferred to the university from Boston University. Perry was able to begin her acting career at New York after graduation, landing minor roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. However, her home-sickness forced Perry move back to California to work as a theatre actress. Her mother and she starred on Broadway with her as part of The Other Place, in 2013. The show featured her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 at The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry made an appearance in nine episodes of The Family, an ABC drama The Family in 2016. She was also a regular actor in the ABC politics drama Scandal which starred her father. This year, she was chosen to portray a younger character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger version of her mother's role. This role was given by audition regardless of the fact that she is a relative with the character.
